Fee-For-Service Counselling

Fee-for-service therapy is a model where service users pay for each session or service they receive from a therapist. In this service model, the individual directly compensates WomenatthecentrE for their therapeutic service.

If appropriate and available, the individual(s) may also utilize their third-party insurance benefits to cover the fees for the service. However, in this service model, the service user manages the interactions with the third-party insurance provider.

WomenatthecentrE will provide service receipts and invoices that can be submitted to the insurance provider. WomenatthecentrE also provides this service to individuals on a sliding scale, dependent on the service user’s needs.

Benefits of Fee-for-Service Therapy

In addition to our commitment to a survivor-led approach, there are other benefits to this model:

Personalized Attention

Individuals receive personalized and dedicated care based on their needs. The goals for this therapeutic relationship are collaboratively discussed and planned between the therapist and the service user.

Flexibility in Services

The number and frequency of services is determined by the service user and the therapist and not predetermined by the insurance provider.

In this service model, the therapist can offer a wider range of services tailored to the specific needs of the individual.

Transparency

Service users have a clear understanding of the costs associated with their therapy sessions, which can help in budgeting and financial planning.

Immediate Access

In the fee-for-service model, there are typically fewer wait times for appointments since the process is not delayed by insurance or government approvals.

Confidentiality

Confidentiality is the cornerstone of any counselling work. In the fee-for-service model, the assurance of privacy is even higher, as no information from sessions is needed to be shared with third-party payers (i.e. insurance providers).

How It Works

Choosing the Right Therapist

When selecting fee-for-service psychotherapy, itโ€™s important to consider:
Qualifications & Experience

Social Work and Psychotherapy are protected professions in Ontario and in many provinces across Canada. Therefore, the individual might be interested in checking that the therapist is licensed and in good standing with their registering college. This might be important if the service user plans to use their insurance.

Specialization

While all therapists are trained in the basic skills of their professions, some therapists specialize in particular areas such as anxiety, depression, relationship issues, or trauma. The service users are advised to choose the therapist who aligns with their specific needs.

Approach & Style

Different therapists use different therapeutic approaches. Itโ€™s beneficial to find a therapist whose therapeutic framework, worldviews, and cultural and personal lived experiences match your preferences.
