Peer to Peer

Services Through Our Trained Counsellors

WomenatthecentrE’s counselling programs were developed by and for survivors of GBV because many expressed the critical need for safe(r) spaces for survivors. Through counselling services, survivors can expect to identify and work through challenges, identify and reflect on strategies of resilience and strength, learn new ways of coping, and establish a comprehensive support plan.

As a survivor-led team, we also recognize that the binary expression of abuse is a myth. Harm can be caused and experienced by the same person – “hurt people hurt people.” Therefore, through our counselling/psychotherapy program, we also offer safe(r) spaces for those who have caused harm to reflect, process, and cope with difficult thoughts, behaviours, and emotions, as well as imagine new possibilities for change.

Our survivor-led and trauma-informed approach to care is based on the foundations of cultural humility and a non-judgemental stance, where we provide support and advocate for change.
